Like Riding on a Snow Cone

Notes: Fresh snow with a frozen icing on top made for a workout of a ride!  The 30 degree temp felt balmy from the work of it all.  Overall great conditions, great ride.

Monday

Notes: Through the Village with Bob on a light dusting of fresh snow.  Good traction all around.  A nice steady 8 miles...only stopped twice for a water break (well, more like a slushy ice break).

Tidbits: Bob's on a new Superfly 100 Elite Carbon...real light full suspension ride!  Very sweet indeed.

Notes: Surprisingly, it appeared that the only tracks since Tuesday were mine and Bob's.  Maaaaybe one other rider has been out (John?).   I know it's been ridiculously cold, but the trails are in awesome shape!  Get out there!!!

Notes:  I talked Bob into this...oh wait, strike that, turn it around.  Bob talked ME into this.  When I saw the wind chill this morning I was ready to cancel.  Snow Bob didn't allow it.  Turned out to be quite pleasurable...good ride!!

Tidbits: Only the Coyotes and Bunnies left tracks before us.  A winter wonderland (some "wonder" why we do it)!

Tracking Some Tracks Before Snow Tracks

Notes: We went out at a leisurely pace to check out some new stuff and get it tracked via GPS for a map update.   Trails were nice and fast...frozen hard.  New trails for the map are Pine Needles (revised), North Field and South Field Loops, and Linguica.  Expecting snow for the morning, so riding may be put on hold (unless it's nice powder.)

Village Mud Pit

Notes:  Just a little ride with Jesse Dog.  4 miles or so.  A bit sloppy but manageable. J-Lo was in pretty bad condition...may want to avoid that one until it hardens up again.  Of course Jesse had to jump in the ugliest mud puddles available.

The Whole Park, with a Side of Linguica

• Trail Conditions: a bit slippery...not too bad 
• Whoops, Yikes, and Oh Sheets: a little whoops by Jack on J-Lo...all good

Tidbit:  We rode a new trail called "Linguica".  Just as the name indicates...it was curvy, slimy, with some spicey ups and downs.

Snow Good...Ice No Good

Notes: Bottom line...sucked.  The crunchy snow melted then refroze into thick ice.  Riding over anything that was already trodden was impossible with normal tires.  I was able to pussy-foot around on alternate trails.

Snowshoeing - First Trek of 2013

Notes: We took advantage of the snow and tried out our new xmas snowshoes at Village Park. They made a big difference, even though the snow wasn't very deep, the spikes gave us traction. Surprisingly, the pond was frozen too. A few skaters were out there...could this be a "real" Winter?
