What's a Satori?
Since my bike is still broke, Bob being Bob, allowed me to use a "shop" bike. I assumed he meant the usual shop bike, Denny's old Gary Fisher. So when he said, "go get the Satori near the full suspension bikes" when I arrived at the shop, I assumed that the GF must be a Satori, since there is no model name marked on it. I strolled right by the full suspension bikes and grabbed the GF, put my pedals on, adjusted the seat and headed out the door. Bob comes out and says, "why the heck do you have that?, I said the Satori." Okay. So I'm like..."What's a Satori?"
It's brand new 2013 Kona 29er full suspension! And it's details... Click On
Well I gotta say...I was VERY impressed with this bike. For me, the fit and comfort of the 18 inch frame was perfect. Although the suspension felt squishy when bouncing on the bike, it was NOT felt while riding. Front and rear shocks had 3 position adjustments which, for me, felt best in the middle setting. Great handling bike, and the adjust-on-the-fly seat adjustment actually served a purpose. LOVED this bike. Oh, good ride too...

Just a morning bike path ride...
...very windy, 8+ miles, lots of healthy people out running and biking today. Although the runners don't smile at all...the bikers do. :)
Tidbits: Wanted to do the yearly Big River Fun Ride this morning...but wanted to give my back another rest day. Oh and there's that whole broken frame thing!

Tuesday's Ride
Notes: Just me and dogface for a nice quick ride. Trails are nice and compact...fast. So fast that I broke my frame, again. Bikeworks setting me up with the warranty.

No Bike Hike
Notes: A rare occurance...went to Big River without a bike. Joined some two legged friends with four legged friends to go for a nice hike to Allen's Cliff. Beautiful weather for hiking, very well behaved dogs, chatty wifes, a fun time.

A sixer around Village Park...
...with Bob and Jesse. Nice easy old man pace. I even threw in an old man tumble off one of the skinny bridges...comical.

Missed it by THAT much! (Big River)
- Place: Big River Carr Pond Side
- Trailhead: Hopkin's Hill Parking Lot
- Miles: 5.7
- Trail Conditions: good, no adverse affects from the rain
- Whoops, Yikes, and Oh Sheets: just a little flop on a hill...little rusty from a week off
- GPS Track:
Notes: Goal was to meet up for the "old guys" ride at 0830, but the traffic through Providence caused me to miss the start. So I used my apparantly not-so-good Mohegan tracking skills to follow the bike tracks in hopes of catching the group. Lost the trail. But got a nice loop on mostly technical single track around the pond.
Tidbits: I stumbled on some previously unmapped (by me) single track on the west side of Carr. See track below. Looks like the trails crews have been busy since I was here last. Good stuff.

Hike up, Hobble down
- Place: Mt Washington
- Trailhead: Pinkham Notch
- Miles: 6-ish
- Trail Conditions: Rocks, rocks, and rocks, very worn trail
- Technical Level: Pretty tough hike given the lack of switchbacks
- GPS Track:
Notes: Teri lead this hike up to the Hermit Lake Shelter, near the base of Tuckerman Ravine. Sore legs and all we made it up in good time. Great views of Tuckerman and other ravines. Coming down was another story...Teri had to keep the knee straight while descending the whole way. Watching the youngin's sprint down the rocky trail made us both think of days gone by...
Tidbits: Can't imagine hiking up here in the winter to ski Tuckerman's...just crazy.

Hiking Ouch
- Place: North Moat Mountain, North Conway, NH
- Trailhead: Diana's Baths
- Hikers: T and OMMB
- Miles: 10.66
- Weather: perfect
- Technical Level: categorized as "strenuous" hike (duh)
- Wildlife: Red Squirrels, Chipmunks. a Hummingbird (not an hallucination!), a Peregrine Falcon, some butterflies, and a fully tattooed man who told us to watch for the falcon.
Notes: This was a long ass hike. Too long an ass hike for our first day. The vertical wasn't so bad...it was the distance. Would we climb North Moat again? Yep...but probably from a more direct route. The views from 80% of this route are excellent and the summit offers a 360 degree unobstructed view that includes Mt Washington, Mt Chocorua, North Conway, and Cranmore Ski area.
Tidbits: Teri discovered that she has a knee problem...only when traveling downhill while bending the knee. She was in pain...but stuck it out the whole hike down...ouch!! Both of us were sore for days! The nightly visits to the hot tub helped...a little.
